fewer organic clicks
In a randomized study of 68,089 searches, outbound organic clicks fell by 39.8% on queries where an AI Overview appeared (0.37 clicks per search versus 0.62).
E-commerce SEO for AI search and shopping agents
Shoppers now ask Google AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity what to buy. AgentsCited helps e-commerce brands become a source those answers draw from, through clean product feeds, crawlable stores, citation-worthy content and honest measurement.
The problem
This is no longer a forecast. Controlled experiments published in 2026 measure the click loss directly.
In a randomized study of 68,089 searches, outbound organic clicks fell by 39.8% on queries where an AI Overview appeared (0.37 clicks per search versus 0.62).
In the same study, zero-click searches rose to 73% from 54% when an AI Overview was shown. AI Overviews appeared on about 41% of queries.
A preregistered study of 1,100 users found that moving people to Google AI Mode cut external click-through by 18.8 percentage points.

One study of 60,350 citations found list-style comparison and "best-of" pages made up 81% of ChatGPT citations. Homepages made up 7%.

We report these numbers with their limits. One caveat flagged in coverage of this research: the "hide AI Overviews" arm only worked about half the time, and its effect across everyone assigned was small and not statistically significant (GetFoundAgent). AI answers also vary from one ask to the next, which is why we talk about odds and share of citations, never guaranteed placements.
What changed for stores
ChatGPT Shopping matches and ranks products from merchant feeds built to the Agentic Commerce Protocol spec, with updates accepted every 15 minutes (ACP feed spec). Google's Universal Commerce Protocol puts checkout inside AI Mode and Gemini, driven by Merchant Center data (Google UCP).
That makes GTINs, images, variants, accurate price and stock, reviews and return policies ranking inputs, not admin chores.
What still works
Google says that to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode a page must be indexed and eligible for a snippet, and that there is "no special schema" required (Google: AI features and your website).
Getting cited is a two-step problem: the engine first has to select your page as a source, then actually use it. Evidence-dense pages with clear sections get used more. FAQ formatting on its own did not help (arXiv 2604.25707).
Services
Start with an audit, then add only what your store needs. All work is sold as capability and evidence, not click guarantees.
Indexation and snippet eligibility, AI-bot crawl access, schema, feed health, and a citation baseline across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Mode.
Ongoing tuning of Merchant Center and ChatGPT Shopping feeds: titles, attributes, GTINs, images, reviews and freshness.
On-site comparison and buying-guide pages full of original data, plus ethical outreach to earn places on third-party "best" lists.
Monthly share-of-citations from repeated prompt panels, Search Console AI data, GA4 bot cleanup and revenue, in one honest report.
Diagnosis and a recovery plan after a spam or core update. Google ran spam updates in June, August and September 2026 (Google Search Central).
How it works
We check whether AI engines can reach your store and run a prompt panel to see who gets cited for your category today.
Fix crawl access for Googlebot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User and PerplexityBot, indexation, structured data that matches the page, and feed gaps.
Build evidence-dense comparison and product pages, and earn mentions on the third-party lists engines already cite.
Track citation share and answer influence over repeated runs, alongside branded search and revenue. No single-screenshot wins.
